Theatre Club
Offering literate theatre for grown-up audiences, Theatre Club is committed to bringing the work of dramatists like Samuel Beckett, Vaclav Havel, and Edward Albee to the Tulsa stage, along with plays by more contemporary playwrights like Martin McDonagh, Eve Ensler, Brian Friel, and Moises Kaufmann. Whether its a new adaptation of a drama by Euripides or the staging of a near-forgotten Mae West play, Theatre Club provides local audiences with things they are unlikely to see anywhere else in the area.
Youth OnStage!
Youth Onstage is a not-for-profit, 501c(3), high school and middle school acting troupe composed of over 100 teens from seven school districts (including home-schooled kids) in the Tulsa Metro area. Unique features Youth Onstage brings to youth theatre are the employment of a different director for each play and utilization of both middle and high school students in the same plays. The goal of Youth Onstage is to provide our kids with an affirming environment which nurtures love of theatre and development of their skills in all areas of production, including acting, set design, make-up, lighting and sound. The growing popularity of our program among teens in the Tulsa area attests to our success in achieving these objectives.
Thunder Road Theatre
ThunderRoad Theater is the longest-running Native theater company with multiple members who are not related by blood. ThunderRoad is a community-based theater company drawing upon theater workers from Tulsa and northeastern Oklahoma and a predominantly Indian board of directors. TRT's mission is to present quality works by contemporary Native playwrights and to train Native Americans in acting, directing, playwriting and technical theater. We are an inclusive group that welcomes anyone interested in Native cultures. We believe that live theater can help effect social change and serve as a bridge of understanding between the Indian and non-Indian communities.
Monica Huggins Dance Theatre
Tulsa's only professional contemporary and new genre dance company regularly features eclectic modern/jazz/contemporary dance. With passionate, varied choreography and dancers with great approachable style, this new company fills the void left by the LocalMotion Dance Foundation (1990-2000). The Monica Huggins Dance Theatre was founded by Katie Feiock in 2005. Monica Huggins (1922-2004), Feiock's grandmother, was an active deaf Tulsa artist whose artistic vision and eagerness to promote and improve the arts in Tulsa, along with her contributions to the deaf community, gave reason to honor her name.
New Genre Festival
WHAT IS NEW GENRE? New Genre refers to 'non-traditional forms of art' which are experimental and fresh. The New Genre Festival presents a diverse range of artists, many of whom cross disciplinary lines, to create exciting new art works. These works push the limits of traditional media while incorporating the new media made possible by today's technology.
