Nightingale gets wet

Local theaters see the evil of drink - and the good of it, as well.Original stage pieces, comedy nights, midnight movies, performance art, circus acts -- the list of entertainment options at the Nightingale Theater has been varied over the last five years.
Now there's a new item on the theater's menu: beer.
"We had some improv comedy groups in last summer, and several people were asking, 'Hey, in addition to popcorn and candy and coffee and bottled water, can you serve beer in here?' " recalled Amber Whitlatch, a Nightingale co-founder.
They can, they found, by obtaining the proper permits from city officials and clearing a few new inspections. The legwork and elbow grease required was worth the effort, she said.
Following a Dec. 9-11 weekend of original holiday sketch-comedy presentations, Whitlatch declared "Tulsa is a beer-drinking town; beer sales brought in more than ticket sales. . . . We're tickled pink."
The comedy show ended Sunday, but the Nightingale Theater, 1416 E. Fourth St., will be serving pale ales and the like in bottles and cans again soon.
