Revamped 'Puppets Gone Wild' billed as 'director's cut'

When the words "director's cut" follows a movie title, viewers generally can expect at least 30 minutes more of film footage and a three-hour-long explanation about it.

Andrew Agee isn't making any explanations or excuses about "Puppets Gone Wild 3D: The Director's Cut," which, he said, will improve on the original version of plush-feathered madness."

The original show, which opened at the Tulsa Performing Arts Center in August for two performances during the SummerStage 2006 festival, was raunchy and rowdy, with its full-frontal puppet nudity, adult language, rudeness and sex play thwarting all things prim and safe.

Agee said the shows did well there, but he looks forward to even more of a free hand in program content as the show moves to the Nightingale Theater, 1416 E. Fourth St., for four performances.

He said people shouldn't make assumptions about the revamped version.

"The director's cut doesn't necessarily mean dirtier," Agee said. "It may have a little more, but it really depends on how the audience plays."

Agee would, however, admit that he will change some of the show's costumes, puppet characters and song numbers and possibly add sketches fine-tuned since August.

The Nightingale Theater will host Agee, his friends and creature cast at 8 p.m. Friday-Saturday and Sept. 29-30.

Tickets are $15. For more, go to www.nightingaletheater.com or call 583-8487 [As of February 2007, 633-8666] or 344-1154.
